OC Wins; Advances In SAC Playoffs

Three second half goals propelled Oklahoma Christian University to a 3-1 victory over Oklahoma City University in the first round of the men's Sooner Athletic Conference soccer playoff in Oklahoma City Saturday afternoon.

The win advances the Eagles (9-4-4) to the semifinal round on Tuesday (Nov. 2). OCU closes its season with a 9-8 record.

After a scoreless first half the Eagles scored in the first three minutes into the final period. Freshman midfielder Jason Frei sent a long pass to junior forward Matt Clark in the center of the field above the box. Clark turned, tapped the ball to his right and then booted a goal into the left side of the net.

Not to be outdone, OCU took the ensuing kickoff and Mike Wright went straight to the net to score unassisted at 47:16 with only six seconds elapsing off the clock.

Clark scored his second goal of the game and his 21st of the season on an unassisted play in the 64th minute. Possessing the ball to the left center of the field, he faked past his defender and drilled a scoring goal into the net.

Continuing to pressure the Stars, sophomore forward Brady Nikkel added an insurance goal in the 67th minute. Clark was credited with the assist as Nikkel tapped the ball between two defenders, out-sprinted them to the ball and kicked hard into the left corner of the net for the score.
