SHAWNEE, Okla. (Oct. 10, 2008) – The Eagles and Lady Eagles hit the road Friday to play Sooner Athletic Conference rival Oklahoma Baptist University. Both teams would fall just short, however, with the Eagles falling 2-1 and the Lady Eagles 1-0.
Women's Game
The Lady Eagles came out shooting, taking five of the first six shots of the game. But no one could find net, resulting in a scoreless first half.
Hope Heinen and Stephanie Duncan both had shots on goal for the Lady Eagles in the first half, but both offerings failed to get past OBU goalkeeper Sarah Robinson.
The scoring drought was finally snapped in the 80th minute when OBU's Lin Yan took a pass from Marinne Burnham and beat Lady Eagle goalkeeper Lisa Jorgensen.
The Lady Eagles outshot OBU 10-5, and Jorgensen finished the game with three saves.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles record to 5-5-1 overall and 1-2 in SAC play.
Men's Game
The Eagles got off to a hot start as Matt Lambert netted a goal at the 4:12 mark off a corner kick to put the Eagles on top 1-0.
The lead would not last for long though. OBU's Sullivan Silva answered with a goal in the 26th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Early in the second period OBU was awarded a penalty kick. Elcio Freitas took the kick for OBU and put the ball in the back of the net to give the Bison a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles scrambled the rest of the half to tie the game by taking four shots, but the squad could not even the score.
The Eagles took 12 shots in the game and had five shots on goal. Eagle goalkeeper Bryan Cochrum recorded three saves.
With the loss the Eagles' record is now 4-4-3 overall and 1-1-1 in SAC play.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles return to action on Oct. 14 when they head to Chickasha, Okla., to play the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The women will play at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
