Eight wins in a row. The Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles have rewritten the OC soccer record book with a 3-0 victory over the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha on Sept. 23.
Breaking the seven-game win mark set in 2001, Coach Sean O'Connor's squad remained in a tie for the lead in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a perfect 4-0 record.
Freshman forward Stephanie Duncan scored twice and junior Taryn Caylor once to pave the way for OC's third shutout of the season.
Duncan put OC on the scoreboard early with a goal in the 10th minute of play. Caylor launched a shot that was blocked, but Duncan kicked in the rebound for the score.
Later in the first half, Duncan had a shot hit the crossbar and, in the 35th minute, a header rebounded off the right post.
Duncan scored her seventh goal of the season in the 81st minute and Caylor added a third-goal cushion in the final minute of play.
In men's action, USAO posted a 4-2 win over the Eagles on a pair of late-game goals, leaving OC with a 5-2-1 overall record and 1-2-1 mark in SAC play.
Senior Brady Nikkel provided OC with a lead with 18:74 to play in the opening period. Taking a pass from senior Matt Clark, he booted a shot in from the right side of the net.
USAO bounced back to take a 2-1 lead at halftime as Jonathan Oman and Nene Coalibally scored for the Drovers.
Clark's score off Phillip Hoover's assist in the 75th minute enabled OC to tie the game 2-2. But USAO's Joseph Oballa scored in the 83rd minute and Wesley Costa scored in the final minute of play to lift the Drovers to victory.
