BETHANY, Okla. (Sept. 13, 2008) – The Oklahoma Christian University men's and women's soccer teams each dropped hard-fought, 2-1 decisions on Saturday afternoon to William Jewell College (Mo.).

The games were neutral-site contests at Southern Nazarene's Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex in Bethany.

Men's game:

The Eagles (1-1-2) played their third straight overtime game on Saturday. The previous two outings resulted in draws.

Oklahoma Christian surrendered an early goal to the William Jewell (3-3), but rebounded for a 1-1 halftime tie.

The Cardinals jumped out 1-0 just 2:12 into the action when Justin Beck scored off an Austin Williams crosser.

The Eagles clawed back though when Cristian Fernandes cleaned up a deflection in the box at the 17:04 point to tie the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied through the rest of regulation and into the first overtime. But WJC's Matt McDevitt lined a hard shot into the right side of the goal in the contest's 95th minute to end it.

OC was hampered by 15 fouls in the loss. The Eagles fired 12 shots with five coming on goal.

Women's game:

The Lady Eagles fell to 1-3-1 in 2008 despite a quality effort against the 12th-ranked Lady Cardinals.

The game was a 1-1 stalemate at halftime. WJC (4-2) took a 1-0 edge at the 20:01 mark when Kathleen Hatfield's 30-yard offering caromed off the right post into the net.

The Lady Eagles answered back just five minutes later when Stephanie Duncan snuck the ball under the Lady Cardinal goalkeeper Cassi Johnson to lock things at 1-1.

The knotted tally held through much of the second half. But WJC managed a late score from Nicole Littell in the 72nd minute that proved to be the game winner.

OC footed 14 shots and 11 shots on goal in the game.

Both teams are off until they open the home schedule on Sept. 19 against Texas College. The doubleheader will kickoff with the women's game at 5 p.m. The men's contest will follow at 7 p.m.
