CEDAR HILL, Texas (Sept. 5, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian University men's and women's soccer teams came away with back-to-back 2-1 victories over Northwood University (Texas) Saturday evening, with the men grasping the win in overtime.
The Oklahoma Christian Lady Eagles pushed to their second victory in two days by out scoring Northwood University (Texas) 2-1 in a hard-fought matchup. Northwood's Natalie Carter was the first to score setting the Lady Eagles behind 1-0. Shortly thereafter, OC's Callie White responded with a quick goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Nearly midway through the second half, Stephanie Duncan was able to find the goal and put the Lady Eagles ahead 2-1. Duncan's score proved to be the game-winning goal with no goals allowed for the rest of the match.
Behind a strong defense from the OC women that only allowed four shots on goal, the Lady Eagles came away with their third win on the season.
The men's game came down to an overtime period with the Eagles pulling off the win at the last minute to make their record 2-0 for the season. To get the ball rolling for the Eagles, Cristian Fernandes made an early score to put OC in the lead 1-0.
In the second half, Northwood's Sam Valosek was able to put the ball past the Eagles on a penalty kick opportunity to tie the game at 1-1. From then on, no more goals were allowed before regulation time ran out, taking the game into overtime.
Through a nerve-wrecking overtime period, the Eagles saw it through to the end. OC's Matt Lambert put the ball in the net off an assist by Pablo Hernandez with minimal time left to win the game for the Eagles.
Both the Oklahoma Christian men's and women's soccer teams remain undefeated for the season.
The Lady Eagles return home for their next game against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, September 8 at 6:00pm. The Eagles return to the OC soccer field on September 11 to verse Lindenwood (Mo.) at 4:00pm.
