SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (Oct. 27, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian men's soccer team battled to a 1-0 victory over John Brown University Tuesday afternoon following a 3-1 loss by the Lady Eagles.
The OC women had a difficult time finding the net against JBU despite several attempts at goal. The first half saw a Lady Eagle's team eager to score but the JBU defense held firm leaving OC unsuccessful. John Brown, however, made all of their goals in the first half of the game.
JBU's Jodi Knack was the first to score on an unassisted attempt. Not long after Knack's goal, Robyn Cluka of JBU netted a second goal to put John Brown up 2-0. Less than a minute from the end of the half, a foul was called against OC in the box giving JBU a penalty kick opportunity. Alex McMichael put away the kick for John Brown putting them up 3-0 at the half.
Trying to regain ground, OC rallied to score with several shots in the second half. Not long into the period, OC's India Farr scored the Lady Eagles' first goal off an assist from Kacie Hoppe. The Lady Eagles made several more attempts at goal but came away unsuccessful. OC's defensive squad did, however, keep JBU from scoring any goals in the second half.
The 3-1 loss is the Lady Eagles' sixth of the season leaving them 8-6-2 overall.
The men's game saw a defensive shutout until the last minutes of the game. Despite numerous shots by the Eagles in the first half, the OC men were unable to capitalize on their attempts. The Eagles' defensive unit held strong keeping JBU scoreless before the half as well.
Into the second period, OC continued to assault the JBU goal. Late in the half, Matt Lambert ending up finding the net earning the Eagles a score and the win as Lambert's goal was the game winner.
The 1-0 victory for the Eagles leaves them 9-4-1 for the season.
Both the men and women now prepare for their last home game of the season on Thursday night against Mid-America Christian University. The women's and men's double header is a reschedule from a rainout earlier in the month.
