Lubbock Christian beats Eagles 2-0, puts dent in OC's postseason hopes

Trey Boykin had OC's best scoring chance in the Eagles' 2-0 loss to Lubbock Christian.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 28, 2011) – Billy Forbes had a goal and an assist as Lubbock Christian beat Oklahoma Christian 2-0 on Thursday night, putting a dent in the Eagles' hopes of making the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.

With the win, Lubbock Christian (11-3-3, 5-2-2 SAC) solidified its hold on second place in the conference standings. The Chaparrals have 17 points with one game remaining.

The top eight teams qualify for the SAC tournament and USAO has clinched the top seed. OC (7-5-4, 3-4-2) has 11 points and is in eighth place with one game left, at home on Saturday against Wayland Baptist. But besides USAO, OC and Lubbock Christian, the other six teams still alive in the race for the postseason all have two games left, meaning the Eagles likely must win Saturday and hope for help.

The Eagles won't know until Tuesday if they've made the tournament.

On a cold, rainy night, Lubbock Christian took the lead in the 20th minute. An OC defender accidentally knocked down goalkeeper Tim Spencer and Forbes took a pass from Adam Goodnight and scored.

About 10 minutes later, Forbes fed Jorge Martinez, who beat Spencer to make it 2-0.

OC outshot the Chaparrals 21-16 but never could break through. The Eagles' best chance came in the 58th minute, as Joe Broam set up Trey Boykin with a perfect pass just in front of the goal. Lubbock Christian goalkeeper Tim Saucedo made a stellar save on Boykin's sharp header, keeping the Chaparrals ahead 2-0.

Spencer finished with one save while Saucedo made five.
