CLAREMORE, Okla. (Oct. 26, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's and men's soccer teams both succumbed to Rogers State University (Okla.) on Tuesday night with the women falling 3-2 and men losing in a 2-0 shutout.
The OC women ran out of time against the Rogers State women after first falling to a 3-0 deficit and then coming back within one with two goals of their own in the second half.
Minutes into the first half, the Lady Eagles dropped to a 1-0 disadvantage when a defensive error allowed the ball to slip by the OC keeper. Unable to retaliate, the Lady Eagles dropped to a two score deficit just before the half when RSU's Tiffany Roberts finished a loose balled into the back of the OC net.
Just minutes into the second period, RSU's Shereen Clarke pocketed a third goal for the Lady Hillcats to take a 3-0 lead over the Lady Eagles.
It was not until late in the half that the Lady Eagles got on the board. With less than 20 minutes remaining, OC's Angela Pete broke past the RSU defenders to finish with a score for the Lady Eagles. With less than seven minutes to play, Emma Cole blasted a deflected shot into the net to leave the Lady Eagles trailing by a single score.
The OC women were unable to find the net for the tie and suffered the 3-2 loss to the Lady Hillcats. The defeat puts the Lady Eagles at 2-11-2 for the season and 1-7-1 for conference play.
In the men's game, the Eagles struggled against a tough Hillcat squad as an early 2-0 lead by the RSU men proved to be fatal as the OC men were unable to respond.
RSU's T.J. Martin scored two goals within six minutes of each other midway through the first period to give the Hillcats a lead they never surrendered. Despite several attempts and opportunities at the RSU goal, the Eagles came up short unable to find the net.
A scoreless second period left the game to a 2-0 shutout by the Hillcats. Despite scoring just two goals, the RSU men put up an array of 20 shots with 11 on target. OC's Tim Spencer made nine saves on the evening.
The loss leaves the Eagles to a 3-12 season record and a 3-5 record for conference play.
The OC soccer teams will return home to host Saint Gregory's University (Okla.) on Saturday with the women scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. and the men to follow at 8 p.m.
