Eagles, Lady Eagles fall to Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Oct. 19, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian women's and men's soccer teams both fell in defeat to Oklahoma City University on Tuesday night as the women suffered a 2-0 loss and the men fell in a close 1-0 matchup.

The Lady Eagles struggled against a tough Oklahoma City squad, as the OC women were only able to record three shots during the game while the Lady Stars attacked the OC goal with 15 shots of their own.

Not long into the first period, the OCU women jumped to a 1-0 lead when OCU's Josefine Holmgren put the ball into the back of the OC net. The Lady Eagles were unable to retaliate and did not get a shot off during the first half.

The second period saw a similar outcome as the OC women yielded a second goal to the Lady Stars nearly halfway through the period. The Lady Eagles again had a hard time responding as OCU continued to control the ball. OC keeper, Natalie Goens, made four saves during the second half limiting the Lady Star offense.

With the Lady Stars taking the 2-0 victory, the Lady Eagles fall to a 2-10-1 record on the season with a 1-6 record in the conference.

In the men's game, the Eagles met a quick Oklahoma City squad but held their own against the Stars despite coming up short. A goal scored by OCU in the first few minutes of the game proved fatal for the Eagles as they were unable to find the back of the net.

The first half of play saw a controlling OCU offense who put up eight shots against the Eagles, however, the OC men turned the tide of play in the second half when they put up seven shots to the Stars' three.

Although the OC men controlled the second half and created numerous opportunities to score, the Eagles came up short unable to find the OCU goal only to yield the 1-0 shutout to the Stars.

The defeat puts the Eagles at 3-10 on the season and 3-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

The OC soccer teams will head across town to play at Southern Nazarene University on Saturday with the women scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. and the men to follow at 8 p.m.
