Wallace 14th in season’s initial indoor heptathlon at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. (Feb. 1, 2014) – Austin Wallace finished 14th in his first indoor heptathlon of the season and Brennym Kaelin and 4x400-meter relay team posted strong finishes on Saturday for Oklahoma Christian in the Missouri Southern Lion Invite.

Wallace, a sophomore who is a multi-event specialist, posted a score of 4,546 points in the heptathlon, a seven-event discipline. He finished second in the heptathlon last season at the National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Championships.

He entered Saturday in eighth place in the 24-man field but fell six spots as the competition wound down.

Kaelin finished 26th among 53 runners in the 800 meters, posting a time of 2:03.83. Also finishing in the upper half of competitors was OC’s 4x400 relay team of Trenton Parker, Jamal George, Winston Ogletree and Joshua Jones. That foursome was 13th of 29 teams, finishing in 3:33.91.

Jones was 31st (53.37 seconds) and Parker 32nd (53.59 seconds) among 53 runners in the 400 meters.

The Eagles will run next Saturday in the Central Oklahoma Indoor Invitational, to be hosted by UCO at the University of Oklahoma’s indoor facility in Norman.
