Payne again earns NCCAA Scholar-Athlete honors for men’s golf

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 27, 2013) – For the second straight year, Oklahoma Christian golfer Trey Payne has been named as an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete for men’s golf.

Payne, who is from Ardmore, and others on the Scholar-Athlete list were recognized last week before the NCCAA Championship at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.

To qualify for the honor, a student-athlete must have a grade-point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale and be a junior or senior academically. Payne, a junior in eligibility on the Eagles’ squad, is a senior academically and has a 3.44 GPA in accounting.

He played in all five tournaments for the Eagles this fall, posting a stroke average of 74.6 in 14 rounds. He shot a low round of 69 in the first round of the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate at The Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz., on Oct. 1.
