Ostlund wins javelin, Lewis makes strong debut in outdoor opener

WINFIELD, Kan. (March 14, 2013) – Katie Ostlund won the javelin and freshman Tara Lewis posted a pair of top-six finishes in her Oklahoma Christian track debut as the Lady Eagles opened the outdoor season Thursday at the Southwestern (Kan.) Invitational.

Ostlund, a sophomore who finished third in the javelin at last year’s NAIA Outdoor Championships, bested 23 other competitors at Southwestern with a throw of 137 feet, 11 inches (42.04 meters).

Lewis, who missed the indoor season due to injury, ran both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters. She finished second among 29 runners in the 1,500 with a time of 4:56.65 and was sixth in the 800 in 2:25.40.

Andrea Dennis led OC’s sprinters with a ninth-place finish among 39 runners in the 200 meters, finishing in 26.35 seconds. Maegan Cowan finished the 400 meters in 1:00.88, good for a 10th-place finish among 26 runners.

OC’s quartet of Rebecca Bloodworth, Dennis, Somer Helms and Cowan took fourth among 10 entries in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:05.57. The OC squad was seventh among 10 teams in the 4x100-meter relay in 49.62 seconds.
