LAWRENCE, Kan. (April 18, 2014) –Four Oklahoma Christian distance runners waited almost all day to run in one event on Friday night at the Kansas Relays, but they made it worth their time.

The OC quartet of Brennym Kaelin, Bryant Keirns, Roberto Diaz and Brayden Barrientez took second place in the 4x1600-meter relay, a rarely run collegiate event.

The Eagles finished the race at Rock Chalk Park in a time of 17:51.93, trailing only Augustana (S.D.) in the seven-team field. OC beat one NCAA Division I squad, Oral Roberts, and a pair of Division II foes in Fort Hays State (Kan.) and Emporia State (Kan.).

Kaelin opened with a split of 4:27.80, then Keirns followed with one of 4:25.63. Diaz had a 4:28.47 on the third leg, while Barrientez’s anchor-leg split was 4:30.04.

After a busy stretch during the past 10 days, OC’s track and field teams will be off until April 26, when they’ll compete in the Southwestern Relays in Winfield, Kan. That will be their final prep meet for the National Christian College Athletic Association Outdoor Championships, set for May 1-3 in Rome, Ga.
