OC golf teams return to action in Texas tournaments

Vilhelm Bogstrand and the Eagles will play this week in the Harold Funston Invitational in Huntsville, Texas.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (Oct. 9, 2011) – Oklahoma Christian’s golf teams are set to play in what will be the third tournament of the fall season for each squad.
Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles will play Monday and Tuesday in the Harold Funston Invitational, hosted by Sam Houston State University at Raven Nest Golf Club. Both the men’s and women’s tournament will include 12 teams.
Both tournaments will be 54-hole events, with two rounds to be played on Monday and the final round on Tuesday. The yardage on the par-71 course will be 6,943 for men and 6,067 for the women.
OC’s men won the Texoma Championship in Kingston, Okla., last week, led by medalist Vilhelm Bogstrand. This week, the Eagles will face seven NCAA Division I teams – Sam Houston State, Centenary, Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Pan American, Texas Southern, McNeese State and Nicholls State. Also in the field will be OC’s Sooner Athletic Conference rival Oklahoma City University.
Last year, OC’s Axel Ochoa won medalist honors in the Sam Houston State event.
The Lady Eagles are coming off a 16th-place finish in the University of Central Oklahoma Golf Classic in Oklahoma City. NCAA Division I schools in the women’s field this week will be Centenary, Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Pan American, Texas Southern, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
OC’s men will play Monday with golfers from OCU, Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State, teeing off between 8 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. The Lady Eagles will play with their counterparts from Houston-Victoria (Texas), Texas Southern and Concordia (Texas), starting between 9:40 a.m. and 10:20 a.m.
