GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 2, 2014) – Oklahoma Christian’s softball team just missed winning a national title on the field, but the Lady Eagles earned one in the classroom during the 2014 season.

With a 3.635 team grade point average, OC not only earned Scholar Team status from the National Christian College Athletic Association, it posted the highest GPA of any NCCAA softball squad.

On the field, the Lady Eagles weren’t shabby, either, reaching the NCCAA championship game before falling to Shorter (Ga.). The Lady Eagles tied a program record for single-season wins, finishing 42-16, and matched the best-ever national finish by an OC women’s squad in any sport.

The Lady Eagles’ team GPA ranked the squad 12th among all teams at NCCAA-member schools, regardless of sport. The softball team was one of three OC teams to earn Scholar Team honors, which are given to squads whose team members have a combined grade-point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale. OC’s women’s golf and women’s cross country teams earned the designation this past fall.

Members of the OC softball team included seniors Lauren Chatigny, Sarah Endres, Krista Martony, Lauren Pittman, Kala Ratliff and Martha Thomas; juniors Monique Elliott, Taylor Mosher, Kendra Pierce, Krystal Rodriguez and Courtney Starr; sophomore Danielle Collins and freshmen Jordan Chism, Shea Coats, Niki Davidson, Haley Goodin, Haley Squier and Abby Taliaferro.
