OC softball announces schedule for 1st season in new stadium
OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 6, 2013) – West Texas A&M will be Oklahoma Christian’s first opponent when the Lady Eagles make their debut at Tom Heath Field at Lawson Plaza during the 2014 softball season.
OC announced its 53-game schedule Wednesday, which includes 26 games at the Lady Eagles’ $3.9 million stadium. The doubleheader against West Texas A&M on Feb. 18 (starting at 1 p.m.) will be OC’s first on-campus softball games since April 2012, after which old Lady Eagle Field was torn down so construction could begin on the new facility.
OC is coming off a 22-22 season in which the Lady Eagles reached the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region title game.
The Lady Eagles will open their season in an event at Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Feb 7-8, playing games against Northwood (Texas) and Eastern New Mexico each day. A doubleheader at Northwestern Oklahoma State will follow Feb. 11 before the Lady Eagles play a three-game series at NCAA Division I Abilene Christian on Feb. 14-15.
After the home opener, the Lady Eagles will play five games in an event at St. Mary’s (Texas) from Feb. 21-23, where they’ll face Eastern New Mexico and Midwestern State (Texas) on a Friday, Eastern New Mexico and Tarleton State (Texas) on Saturday and Western Oregon on Sunday.
OC will host regional power Texas Woman’s on Feb. 25 before jumping into Heartland Conference play with a series at Texas-Permian Basin on Feb. 28 and March 1.
A six-game homestand will follow against nonconference foes Cameron (March 4), Southwestern Oklahoma State (March 8) and Northwestern Oklahoma State (March 11).
OC will return to conference play with a series March 13-14 at Lubbock Christian, then return home for a doubleheader on March 18 against Oklahoma Wesleyan before another conference series on the road at Oklahoma Panhandle State on March 21-22.
After hosting longtime local rival Southern Nazarene on March 25, OC will play its first home conference series at Tom Heath Field on March 28-29 against Rogers State. The Lady Eagles will visit defending NCAA Division II champion Central Oklahoma on April 1 before hosting conference foe St. Edward’s (Texas) on April 4-5.
The Lady Eagles will return to the conference road for their next series, at St. Mary’s on April 11-12, then host league rivals Newman (Kan.) on April 17-18 and Texas A&M International on April 25-26.
OC plans to host an event May 2-3 against yet-to-be-determined foes, then will host the NCCAA Central Region tournament May 8-10. The NCCAA Championship will be May 15-17 in Troutville, Va.
