OKLAHOMA CITY (April 15, 2013) – A strong week at the plate landed Oklahoma Christian junior Martha Thomas the Heartland Conference softball hitter of the week honor on Monday.

Thomas, a first baseman-designated hitter from North Richland Hills, Texas, batted .643 last week as the Lady Eagles split a doubleheader at Southern Nazarene and lost three games at conference rival St. Mary’s (Texas).

Thomas, who went 9-for-14, recorded at least one hit and one RBI in all five of the Lady Eagles' games. Thanks to two doubles and two home runs, she posted a whopping 1.214 slugging percentage and also had an impressive .706 on-base percentage as she drew three walks. When in the field, she played error-free softball, successfully handling 21 chances.

She hit a two-run homer to account for OC's only runs in a 10-2 loss to Southern Nazarene and her RBI single in the second game against SNU keyed a four-run seventh-inning rally for the Lady Eagles in a 5-0 win. In the series finale against St. Mary's, Thomas' dramatic three-run home run in the seventh inning gave OC a 5-4 lead before St. Mary's rallied in the bottom of the inning.

She is the third OC player to win the Heartland weekly hitting award this season, joining Kendra Pierce and Kala Ratliff. OC pitcher Taylor Mosher has received the conference’s weekly pitching award twice.
