OC’s Evans captures 2 awards in CoSIDA writing contest
ORLANDO, Fla. (June 15, 2013) – Murray Evans, Oklahoma Christian’s assistant athletic director for media relations, won two awards in the annual Fred S. Stabley Sr. Writing Contest conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The awards were announced during CoSIDA’s annual convention, which ended Saturday in Orlando. Evans won first-place District 6 honors in event coverage, for his story on OC capturing the National Christian College Athletic Association men’s golf championship in October, and in the season preview category, for a story on OC’s men’s golf prior to the Eagles’ fall campaign.
The CoSIDA contest drew a record 525 entries across seven categories. Sports information directors at all levels – from NCAA Division I to the NAIA and junior colleges – compete head-to-head in eight districts, with the district winners in each category then considered for national writing honors.
Evans has worked at OC since August 2011, after spending 15 years as a sports writer at The Oklahoman and another eight years as a news and sports writer for The Associated Press.
