OC adds 2nd Perkins-Tryon hoops standout as Stanford signs
PERKINS, Okla. (April 19, 2013) – McKenzie Stanford, who helped Perkins-Tryon High School reach the Class 3A championship game last month, has signed a letter of intent to play women’s basketball at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach Stephanie Findley said Friday.
The 6-foot Stanford is the second Perkins-Tryon player to sign with OC for the 2013-14 season, joining fellow inside player Jordan Gorham. The pair led Perkins-Tryon to a 28-1 record.
As a senior, Stanford averaged 13.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while shooting 53.1 percent from the field. She was named to the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association’s All-State Middle East team and earned honorable mention from The Oklahoman on its Class 3A All-State and Little All-City lists and from the Tulsa World on its All-State team.
“McKenzie is a versatile forward who could actually play some guard if asked,” Findley said. “She is agile and very effective in pressing situations, is an athletic rebounder and is capable of scoring inside and outside. She is a great fit for our program, both on the court and off.”
Stanford played for Cushing High School as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to Perkins-Tryon. She sat out her junior season before returning to the court as a senior.
