OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 13, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian has set a 52-game schedule for the 2013 softball season, coach Tom Heath said Thursday.

The Lady Eagles will open their season on the west side of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area with a Feb. 9 doubleheader at Southwestern Christian.

The OC program is in a state of transition both on and off the field. The university is in the first year of the NCAA Division II membership process and its first academic year as a member of the Heartland Conference, which means the Lady Eagles will have a slate of new league foes. Games involving the Lady Eagles will not count in the Heartland standings, however.

OC also in the process of building a new $4.6 million home facility, Tom Heath Field at Lawson Plaza. Construction work is proceeding and Heath hopes the Lady Eagles will be able to play at their new stadium during April.

Until then, the Lady Eagles will play their home games at the Hall of Fame Stadium complex in Oklahoma City, located near the intersection of Interstate 35 and NE 50th Street.

The Lady Eagles will play their first 21 games away from home. After the games at Southwestern Christian on Feb. 9, OC will play a doubleheader on Feb. 11 at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, then play six games in a tournament at Arkansas-Monticello from Feb. 15-17.

After a doubleheader at Northwestern Oklahoma State on Feb. 19, the Lady Eagles will make the short trip to Edmond for three games in an event at Central Oklahoma on Feb. 22-23.

OC’s home opener is set for March 5 against the University of Dallas (Texas). The Lady Eagles will face their first Heartland Conference foe three days later, playing the first game of a three-game series at St. Edward’s (Texas).

OC will host Northwestern on March 12, then host its first Heartland Conference series when Oklahoma Panhandle State visits on March 15-16.

The Lady Eagles’ other home dates will be a March 26 doubleheader vs. Southern Nazarene, an April 5-6 series against Texas-Permian Basin and an April 12-13 series against St. Mary’s (Texas).

OC will conclude its regular season with a series April 19-20 at Texas A&M International. The Lady Eagles also could play in the National Christian College Athletic Association regional playoffs later in April, at a site to be determined.
