Lady Eagles at No. 9 in ITA regional rankings
SKILLMAN, N.J. (Feb. 20, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian debuted at No. 9 in the initial regular-season Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II South Central Regional women’s rankings, which were released Wednesday.
OC (4-1) wasn’t considered for the preseason rankings, as the university is in the first year of the Division II membership process, but the ITA promised that OC and other schools making the transition from the NAIA into the NCAA would be eligible for the regular-season rankings.
The Lady Eagles will learn next Wednesday if they will be ranked in the national top 50. The Lady Eagles finished fourth in the final NAIA rankings in 2012 after reaching the national semifinals.
OC’s only loss so far this season came by an 8-1 count at preseason national No. 3 Abilene Christian (Texas), which is ranked No. 1 in the new regional poll.
After Abilene Christian, the rest of the regional top 10 consisted of Cameron, St. Edward’s (Texas), Tarleton State (Texas), Incarnate Word (Texas), Midwestern State (Texas), St. Mary’s (Texas), Dallas Baptist (Texas), OC and Arkansas-Fort Smith.
OC beat Arkansas-Fort Smith 6-3 last week and has regular-season matches scheduled against Cameron, Tarleton State, Incarnate Word, Midwestern State and St. Mary’s.
