Lady Eagles 4th after 1st round of spring season
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 18, 2013) – It proved to be a tougher-than-expected start to the spring women’s golf season for Oklahoma Christian on Monday.
The Lady Eagles posted a team score of 312 – 21 shots off the lead – in the first round of the Lady Rattler Roundup at Old Dominion Country Club. Only one OC golfer was in the top 10 – freshman Audrey Meisch, who stood seventh after shooting a 4-over-par 76 on the 5,820-yard course.
OC was fourth among 18 teams in the tournament. Tarleton State (Texas) led the tournament at 291, followed by two of OC’s Heartland Conference rivals – St. Edward’s (Texas) at 304 and Dallas Baptist (Texas) at 311.
The Lady Eagles managed only six birdies over 90 individual holes. Meisch, playing at the No. 5 position for OC, had the steadiest round and trailed the leader, Isabell Jimenez Perea of Tarelton State, by seven shots.
OC junior Catherine Odgers was a shot behind Meisch after firing a 77, good for a tie for 12th in the 88-woman field. The Lady Eagles’ No. 1 player, sophomore Anna Arrese Cortadellas, shot a 6-over 78 and was tied for 16th.
Sarah Harper’s 81 left her tied for 37th while Morgan Dockery shot a 94 for the Lady Eagles and was 80th.
The tournament’s final round will be played Tuesday.
