Hessman to return to OC baseball squad
CHOCTAW, Okla. (July 24, 2013) – Tanner Hessman, who played baseball last season at Rose State after spending his freshman season at Oklahoma Christian, has signed a letter of intent and will return to the OC roster for the 2014 season, coach Lonny Cobble said Wednesday.
Hessman, from Choctaw, is a classic utility player, able to handle most positions. He played in the outfield and pitched last season for Rose State, and as a freshman in 2012, he played mostly at first base but also saw time at second base and shortstop for OC.
He led OC in batting as a freshman with a .326 average, along with two home runs and 21 RBIs. He also had 10 doubles, a .454 slugging percentage and 15 stolen bases. He made two pitching appearances (one start) totaling 7 1/3 innings, going 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA, two strikeouts and five walks.
Hessman helped Rose State post a 28-26 record last season. His sophomore statistics weren’t immediately available.
