Herbst named NCCAA men’s golf student-athlete of the week
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 5, 2013) – The National Christian College Athletic Association named Oklahoma Christian’s Logan Herbst on Monday as its men’s golf student-athlete of the week.
Herbst, a senior from Fairview, was honored for his play last week in the San Antonio Shoot-Out at TPC San Antonio’s Canyons Course. He finished fourth individually in the tournament, which was the Eagles’ first event of the spring season.
In the first round last Monday, Herbst played through gusty wind conditions (which wiped out the tournament's scheduled second round) to shoot a solid opening-round 4-over-par 76 on the course that hosts the PGA Tour’s Texas Open. He improved the next day with a 74 on the 6,826-yard layout to finish at 150.
Herbst led OC to a second-place finish in the tournament.
He joined teammates Sam Johnston and Vilhelm Bogstrand as a recipient of the NCCAA weekly award. Johnston won the award once during OC’s fall season and Bogstrand won it twice.
So far this academic year, 16 OC student-athletes have combined to win NCCAA weekly honors in 11 sports a total of 21 times.
