Hallam caps strong indoor regular season with solid 880

NORMAN, Okla. (Feb. 9, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian sophomore Cassandra Hallam ran a solid fourth in the 880-yard race at the Oklahoma Baptist Indoor Invitational on Saturday, one of a handful of successful outings in the final indoor track and field meet of the regular season.

Sprinter Andrea Dennis also finished fourth in the 200 meters and improved her seed for the National Christian College Athletic Association Championships, which will be held in Marion, Ind. Dennis also anchored OC’s mile relay team that posted a season-best time while finishing third among 14 squads.

Hallam, who has qualified for the NCCAA meet in the mile, ran the 880-yard race in a season-best 2:24.39. Teammate Maria Sargent finished 18th in the 25-woman field in 2:39.77 while Kara Drewke was 20th in 2:41.94.

In the 200, Dennis finished in 26.77 seconds. Another OC runner who already had qualified for the NCCAA meet, Rebecca Bloodworth, was 15th among the 36 runners in 27.69 seconds, while Somer Helms was 18th (27.87 seconds) and Wilmena Gley was 20th (27.93 seconds). Gley also finished 14th of 20 runners in the 400 meters in 1:03.38.

OC’s relay team of Bloodworth, Maegan Cowan, Helms and Dennis ran the mile-long race in 4:07.00. The quartet will compete in the 4x400-meter relay at nationals.

Sarah DiBiasi posted a national-qualifying mark in the high jump with a leap of 4-11¾ (1.52 meters), leading OC’s field-event competitors.
