Eastwood named preseason All-Region; Eagles receive votes in regional poll
DENVER (Jan. 29, 2014) – Oklahoma Christian second baseman Cory Eastwood has been named to the preseason All-South Central Region second-team list, which was released Wednesday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Eastwood, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, was OC’s only selection on the all-region teams, which include players from schools that compete in the three NCAA Division II leagues that make up the South Central Region – the Heartland, Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences.
Eastwood was a second-team All-Heartland Conference selection last season after hitting .325 with 13 RBIs, six doubles, seven stolen bases and a .399 on-base percentage for OC. He was a big reason the Eagles went 26-26, won the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region title and advanced to the NCCAA World Series, their first national-tournament trip in 41 years.
OC received two points in the balloting for the preseason regional rankings, finishing 16th. The Eagles appeared once in the “also receiving votes” category once last season.
Among Heartland Conference teams, St. Edward’s (Texas) topped the preseason region rankings, with St. Mary’s (Texas) fourth and Lubbock Christian (Texas) eighth. Texas A&M International, Arkansas-Fort Smith and Rogers State joined OC in bubbling under the top 10.
OC will open its season Feb. 7 with a 1 p.m. game at Dobson Field against Pittsburg State (Kan.).
