Eagles named by GCAA as a Division II All-Academic Team
NORMAN, Okla. (July 31, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian’s men’s golf team doesn’t just excel on the course. The Eagles also are stars in the classroom.
On Wednesday, the Golf Coaches Association of America named OC as one of only 20 NCAA Division II squads to earn All-Academic Team recognition from the national organization.
To be eligible for the honor, a team’s players must have a combined grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The Eagles posted a team GPA of 3.35 during the 2012-13 academic year.
Earlier this month, two OC players received All-America Scholar honors from the GCAA – seniors Logan Herbst and Vilhelm Bogstrand.
"It’s very satisfying as a coach to see your team recognized for its excellence in the classroom,” OC coach David Lynn said. “At Oklahoma Christian, academics are extremely important and the support our faculty and staff give to our student-athletes plays a huge part in their success. Our student-athletes are extremely fortunate to have the support group they do at OC.”
Nationwide, 143 teams – ranging from NCAA Division I to NJCAA Division II – qualified for the honor. Only two Heartland Conference teams made the list – OC and St. Edward’s (Texas).
