Davidson receives conference honor after memorable 1st week of career
OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 17, 2014) – Oklahoma Christian freshman Niki Davidson started her college softball career in memorable fashion and was honored on Monday for doing so.
Davidson, a catcher-designated player from Oklahoma City who starred at Community Christian School in Norman, was named as the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference’s hitter of the week for her performance during the Lady Eagles’ season-opening five-game road trip this past weekend.
OC (3-2) split a doubleheader at Midwestern State (Texas) before taking two of three games at new Division I member Abilene Christian. Davidson capped her weekend with a grand slam home run that lifted the Lady Eagles to a 5-1 win over ACU in the series’ decisive game.
In her first two collegiate games at Midwestern State, Davidson went 3-for-4 in both contests. She hit .467 for the week with six RBIs, a .556 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage.
OC will play its first games in the new $3.9 million Tom Heath Field at Lawson Plaza on Tuesday afternoon when the Lady Eagles host West Texas A&M.
