Carr, Lopez homer to lift OC past Northwestern Oklahoma State
OKLAHOMA CITY (March 13, 2013) – Jordan Lopez and Markus Carr each hit a three-run home run and Brock Werdel allowed three runs in seven innings, leading Oklahoma Christian past Northwestern Oklahoma State 11-5 on Wednesday at Dobson Field.
Northwestern (9-10) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and the Rangers held the lead until Carr hit his homer in the bottom of the fourth off Grant Mason (1-2) to put the Eagles up 5-3.
OC (12-8) broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning against reliever Brad Drury. Garrett Stephenson delivered a two-run single before Lopez’s homer gave the Eagles a 10-3 lead.
Lopez finished 3-for-4 and scored three runs while Carr was 2-for-3 and scored once. Jerry Owen also had two hits for the Eagles.
Werdel (2-1) settled down after his first-inning struggled and allowed five hits while striking out eight with no walks.
The Eagles will host Heartland Conference rival Arkansas-Fort Smith on Thursday.
