Bozkova downs regional champ, but OC falls 8-1 at ACU
ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 9, 2013) – Oklahoma Christian’s Barbora Bozkova settled a score on Saturday afternoon, but that was the only success the Lady Eagles had on Saturday at NCAA Division II No. 3-ranked Abilene Christian (Texas).
OC fell 8-1 to the Wildcats, but Bozkova provided a major highlight, knocking off three-time South Central Regional champion and No. 5-ranked Julia Mongin of ACU 6-1, 6-7, 10-5 at the No. 1 position.
During the fall season, Bozkova, ranked No. 20 in Division II singles, lost to Mongin in the U.S. Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Central Regional title match. Bozkova won the first set of that match 6-0 before dropping the final two sets 6-2, 6-1.
The rest of the match wasn’t so pleasant for OC (2-1). Abilene Christian (3-1) took all three doubles matches. The closest match was at No. 1 doubles, as the Wildcats’ fifth-ranked duo of Mongin and Brittney Reed downed No. 13-ranked Bozkova and Angie Torres Quezada 8-5.
In singles, ACU won in straight sets at the other five positions.
