LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (Dec. 29, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian senior Vilhelm Bogstrand shot a 1-under-par 69 and stood in a five-way tie for third Saturday after the first round of The Patriot All-America Invitational.

Bogstrand is one of two OC players competing in the second annual event, played at The Wigwam’s Gold Course in suburban Phoenix. OC junior Alasdair Dalgliesh fired a 77 on the 6,948-yard course and was tied for 65th in the 82-man field.

Players in the field primarily are collegiate golfers named to 2011 PING All-America teams for NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA or the National Junior College Athletic Association; American Junior Golf Association first-team All-Americans from 2011 who now are college freshmen; or invited members of U.S. service academy golf teams.

Bogstrand and Dalgliesh both received first-team honors for 2012 on PING’s NAIA All-America list. Bogstrand also was the medalist at the National Christian College Athletic Association Championship in October at The Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.

On Saturday, players had to wait through a half-hour frost delay. Bogstrand recorded four birdies and three bogeys, while Dalgliesh struggled, recording five bogeys and one double bogey against no birdies.

Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas and Kevin Penner of Nevada-Las Vegas were tied for the lead after each shot a 68. Bogstrand was tied for third with Alex Carpenter of Abilene Christian (Texas), Ben Geyer of St. Mary’s (Calif.), Adam Hedges of Belmont Abbey (N.C.) and Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech.

The 54-hole tournament will continue through Monday.
