Bogstrand finishes in top 25 at Patriot All-America Invitational
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (Dec. 31, 2012) – Oklahoma Christian senior golfer Vilhelm Bogstrand fired a final-round 3-over-par 73 on Monday and finished tied for 21st in The Patriot All-America Invitational collegiate all-star tournament.
Playing at The Wigwam’s Gold Course in suburban Phoenix, Bogstrand’s OC teammate, junior Alasdair Dalgliesh, closed with a 78 on the 7,093-yard layout and finished tied for 64th in the 82-man field.
Bogstrand opened the event with a 69 on Friday and was tied for third, but fell off the pace with a second-round 75 and jumped only two spots with his 73 on Monday. At 7-over 217, Bogstrand finished 11 shots behind the winner, Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas.
Bogstrand had a promising start Monday, birdieing the par-4 No. 2 for the third straight day, but that was his only under-par hole. He recorded four bogeys in a seven-hole stretch on the back nine, ending any thoughts at a top-10 finish.
Dalgliesh finished the tournament at 18-over 228. He had six bogeys and a double bogey on Monday with no birdies.
Players in the field primarily were collegiate golfers named to 2011 PING All-America teams for NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA or the National Junior College Athletic Association; American Junior Golf Association first-team All-Americans from 2011 who now are college freshmen; or invited members of U.S. service academy golf teams.
Bogstrand and Dalgliesh both received first-team honors for 2012 on PING’s NAIA All-America list.
It was the second straight year OC was represented in the event, as last year, OC’s Preston Wilkins played in the tournament.
