Big inning lifts Central Oklahoma past Eagles 12-6
EDMOND, Okla. (April 6, 2013) – Central Oklahoma scored five runs with two outs in the sixth inning and pulled away for a 12-6 win over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.
Matt Malloy homered twice and had five RBIs for UCO (18-15), which snapped a five-game losing streak and earned a split of a two-game series against OC (19-16).
OC scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning, a rally highlighted by Blake Stringer’s solo home run, to take a 6-4 lead over the Bronchos.
OC reliever Kelby Reneau (1-3) quickly recorded two outs in the bottom of the inning but walked No. 9-hole hitter Cameron Mavroulis. The next batter, Jared Wright, lofted a popup just behind second base that appeared to be the third out, but it fell between OC fielders and opened the floodgates for UCO.
Reneau hit Tyler Crabtree to load the bases and Matt Johnson followed with a two-run single to tie the game. Malloy then sent a shot over the right-center field wall to put the Bronchos up 9-6.
The Eagles picked up leadoff doubles in the seventh by Jordan Lopez and eighth by Caleb Price but couldn’t bring them around to score. UCO added an insurance run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Garrett Stephenson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for OC and Cory Eastwood added a pair of RBIs. Markus Carr hit a solo home run in the third for the Eagles.
UCO reliever Ethan Sharp (2-0) picked up the pitching win.
