Arrese, Matthews finish 2-3 as Lady Eagles take 3rd at Lincoln Park West
OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 17, 2013) – Anna Arrese Cortadellas and India Matthews finished second and third, respectively, leading Oklahoma Christian to a third-place team finish Tuesday in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic.
Arrese Cortadellas shot an even-par 72 on the 6,004-yard layout at Lincoln Park Golf Club’s West Course to finish the three-round tournament at even-par 216, two shots behind the medalist, Lina Aguillon of Redlands Community College. Arrese Cortadellas now is 18-for-18 in top-10 finishes during her career at OC.
Matthews finished a shot behind Arrese Cortadellas, also closing with a 72. It was the second time in as many weeks the freshman from Australia posted a third-place finish.
“I cannot say enough about Anna and India,” OC coach Greg Lynn said. “They both played great.”
In the team race, Redlands closed with a 297 to finish at 895, one shot better than tournament host Oklahoma City University, which recorded a final-round 301. OC’s final round team score of 300 put the Lady Eagles at 903, 18 shots ahead of fourth-place Rogers State.
OC’s three other players all finished in the upper half of the 79-woman field. Audrey Meisch’s final-round 79 put her at 234, in 26th place. Allison Sell finished 33rd at 239 after shooting a 78, while Dana Todd fired an 84 and tied for 37th at 243.
“Audrey had an off week but she will be back on her game very quickly,” Lynn said.
Lynn said he was encouraged with the development of Sell and Todd, who both were thrust into the lineup when senior Catherine Odgers had to take a leave of absence from the program.
“Allison and Dana were put in positions they were not ready for, but they will contribute more very soon,” he said.
Three Lady Eagles also played as individuals in the tournament. Alyssa Schneider closed with an 81 to finish at 254, tied for 54th. Mindy Stafford’s 88 left her at 261, in 64th place, while Emery Rakestraw tied for 68th at 266 after shooting a 94.
