OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 16, 2013) – Anna Arrese Cortadellas and India Matthews stood second and third, respectively, after the first two rounds of the Susie Maxwell Berning Invitational on Monday at Lincoln Park Golf Club’s West Course.

Arrese Cortadellas stood at even-par 144 after rounds of 73 and 71 on the par-72, 6,004-yard course and trailed Lina Aguillon of Redlands Community College by two shots. Matthews was a shot behind Arrese Cortadellas, following a morning round of 74 with a solid 1-under 71 in the afternoon.

In the team race, the Lady Eagles recorded rounds of 304 and 299 and were fourth in the 14-team field, eight shots behind tournament host Oklahoma City University. OCU led Redlands by three shots and OC’s Heartland Conference rival, Rogers State, by seven shots.

No other OC players were in the top 20 besides Arrese Cortadellas and Matthews. Audrey Meisch, the reigning Heartland player of the week, shot rounds of 76 and 80 and was tied for 27th at 156.

Freshman Dana Todd fired an 82 and a 77 and was tied for 35th at 159. Another freshman, Allison Sell, was two shots behind Todd, tied for 39th in the 79-woman field at 161 after rounds of 81 and 80.

The proximity of the tournament to the OC campus meant three Lady Eagles had the opportunity to play as individuals, with two of them, Emery Rakestraw and Mindy Stafford, making their collegiate debuts.

Rakestraw, a redshirt freshman, shot an 88 and an 84 and was at 172, in 61st place. Stafford, a true freshman, posted rounds of 87 and 86 and was tied for 62nd at 173 with teammate Alyssa Schneider, who had rounds of 88 and 85.

The tournament’s final round will be played Tuesday.
